BIOGREENET project presented to Sicilian organic greenhouse producers

Within BIOGREENET, the Italian Organic Greenhouse Producer (OGP) network kicked off in Modica (RG) on June 30, 2026. The meeting was followed by a visit to "La Roverella" farm on July 1 to explore soil solarisation and green manure practices.

The first meeting with Sicilian greenhouse producers took place in Modica (RG) on June 30, marking the launch of the BIOGREENET project in Italy. The meeting offered an opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities of greenhouse cultivation in Sicily with producers and technicians of the so-called "fascia trasformata", the more intensively cultivated south-eastern part of Sicily, with the highest concentration of greenhouses (around 9 000 ha of which 1 000 ha are organic).

On July 1, a visit was conducted to "La Roverella" farm, offering practical insights into soil solarisation and summer green manure management, two key agronomic practices for sustainable organic greenhouse systems. Main practical and marketing issues were discussed and next steps for implementing the network of producers were identified.
