BIOGREENET Progress Update: Networks, Knowledge Reviews and Practice Assessment Underway

Since its launch in October 2025, BIOGREENET has made progress in building networks, reviewing existing knowledge, and preparing tools to support organic greenhouse production across Europe.

A key priority has been the establishment of multi-actor networks involving farmers, advisors and researchers. Across the partnership, stakeholder mapping has been carried out and initial outreach activities have taken place to raise awareness of the project. Organic Greenhouse Producer (OGP) networks are being set up in several countries, with activities already underway to engage stakeholders and prepare future exchange formats. Digital platforms and face-to-face events are being developed to support knowledge exchange at national and European level.

At the same time, the project is progressing in the collection and analysis of existing knowledge. Comprehensive reviews of scientific and technical literature on organic greenhouse production are being conducted, covering topics such as crop management, water use, biodiversity, and digitalisation, with a strong focus on practical relevance for farmers. In addition, economic aspects are being explored, including the costs and benefits of organic greenhouse systems as well as farmers' perceptions, which are being gathered through participatory approaches.

To ensure a consistent approach, a common framework for classifying and evaluating agricultural practices has been established and introduced across the consortium. Based on this, practices are currently being reviewed and categorised for further technical assessment. In parallel, several partners are preparing the first practice abstracts, with the process being coordinated at the project level to ensure quality and consistency.

Communication and dissemination activities are also gaining momentum. A joint strategy has been developed, and initial promotional materials have been produced, alongside practice abstracts and multimedia content such as videos. At the same time, key project deliverables, including ethical guidelines, an open science plan, and a data management plan, have been finalised, providing an important foundation for the project's implementation.

With these foundations in place, BIOGREENET is now preparing for its next phase, focusing on evaluating collected knowledge through multi-actor workshops. Practices will be prioritised based on environmental, economic, technical and social criteria, followed by the development of targeted knowledge materials for organic greenhouse farmers.
