BIOGREENET at PROTECHMED Sicily Camp: Strengthening Mediterranean Partnerships in Sustainable Horticulture

The BIOGREENET project, represented by Naouel Admane from CIHEAM Bari, took part in the Transnational Exchange in Sicily, organised by the PROTECHMED project. The event took place in Ragusa, Italy, from 3 to 5 June 2026.

The three-day event brought together project partners, stakeholders, researchers, public authorities, and sector experts from across the Mediterranean, including Greece, Italy, Malta, Tunisia, Lebanon, and Türkiye. The programme combined firsthand exposure to best practices in the Agritech Horticultural District of South-East Sicily, including field visits to innovative local protected agriculture farms, with a collaborative co-design workshop on technological solutions for sustainable horticulture.

A central element of the final day was the co-design process dedicated to the project's pilot actions. Through focused working groups, participants exchanged expertise, explored technological solutions, and jointly developed conceptual blueprints tailored to the specific needs of each pilot territory.

During the camp, Naouel Admane presented BIOGREENET's objectives and activities — focusing on organic greenhouse production, digital tools, and multi-stakeholder collaboration — in dedicated B2B corners, where targeted bilateral meetings facilitated meaningful discussions with diverse stakeholders. The presentation drew significant interest, particularly among participants from Tunisia and Lebanon reflecting growing demand for cross-border knowledge exchange in the protected-crop sector.

The event successfully achieved its objectives by fostering meaningful transnational cooperation, facilitating the exchange of know-how and best practices, and advancing the design of innovative solutions. The participation of BIOGREENET marks an important step in expanding its outreach and fostering Mediterranean partnerships. The interest generated during the B2B meetings opens promising avenues for future cooperation and joint initiatives. BIOGREENET's involvement reinforces its commitment to bridging knowledge gaps, fostering innovation, and empowering producers and advisors in greenhouse production.
