Organic greenhouse production is at its crawling stage so the number of producers are rather few. To establish the OGP network in Turkey, a list of organic greenhouse producers, consultants, researchers and certification bodies involved was compiled and invited to the kick-off meeting in June. The event was also joined by representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, including both provincial directorate staff and a delegate from the Department of Organic and Good Agricultural Practices. The meeting was held in a hybrid format, with a mix of in-person and online attendees.
The aim of the meeting was to share the vision and goals of the network, provide comprehensive information about the BIOGREENET project and to get to know more about each participant and their work.
Beyond introducing the BIOGREENET project's scopes, the meeting served as a platform to discuss overcoming major production challenges and exploring future cooperation opportunities. Organic greenhouse producers shared their expertise in crop diversification but highlighted difficulties with farmer registry and certification due to the high number of crops grown seasonally. Excitingly, the Izmir Provincial Directorate expressed its willingness to initiate a Ministry-funded project at the provincial level.
Participants agreed to continue the OGP network meetings every 2-3 months and to further expand the network regionally and thematically.
